At the Canadian Language
Academy we believe that a strong
academic program and a stimulating environment are essential for
effective learning. The Director of Programs and the teaching staff
are committed to using the latest English instruction techniques
and curriculum
materials in all our programs. We provide excellent
classroom resources and a modern multi-media lab to enhance
the learning objectives.
CLA instructors are
Canadian, well qualified and have a university degree in English as well
as a TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certification.
Classroom instruction
focus on developing all four-language skills:
Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Students
are given
many opportunities to participate in individual and group activities
which emphasize communication skills.
Students will work
on daily interactive exercises and activities
using themes that reflect real-life situations to help the student live
and function in an English-speaking environment. For advanced
students, themes
and language structures are more complex.

2-hour instructional session per week in the
computer lab with an instructor to study ESL and improve each

The General English
program is offered year round in sessions
lasting 4 weeks. There are eight levels from beginner to advanced
available to students. Students should expect to work within each
level for 1-2 sessions.
The General English
Program is designed to improve students’
level of fluency with emphasis on:
- Grammar and Language
Structure
- Listening and Communication
Skills
- Reading and Writing
The General English
Program is available to students as an:
- Intensive (30 hours
per week)
- Immersion (20 hours
per week)
- Part- time (10
hours per week)
Students will work
daily on level appropriate activities and themes.
These interactive and fun activities are aimed at providing practical
opportunities for students to utilize their English language skills
and structures. The full time English Program has four components
using the four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and
Writing.
Grammatical structure
and vocabulary are introduced regularly at
each level to help students improve their oral communication skills
in daily conversations and dialogues. Canadian studies and current
events will be introduced at all levels with an appropriate degree of
difficulty to enhance cultural knowledge and promote dialogue and
student discussion.
Reading a variety
of short texts, stories, articles and novels for
comprehension and enjoyment. Writing for a variety of purposes
and responding in writing to a variety of questions using learned
vocabulary and language structures.

These programs are
available year round in 4-week sessions.
Students must be at an intermediate level to register.
- TOEFL: The Test
of English as a Foreign Language is an
English proficiency test that is required for entrance to a
North American university. The TOEFL test is computerized
and students can take it whenever they are ready.
- TOEIC : The Test
of English for International Communication
is a test that is required by employers. This test measures
English language proficiency at the work place. TOEIC
exams are available every 2 months.
Business

The Business Program
is offered year round in sessions lasting
4 weeks. The program is designed for students at an intermediate
or advanced level. It is offered at the immersion or intensive
(20 or 30 hours per week) levels only. The Business Program is
most beneficial for students with a business background or
interest in studying or conducting business in English.
At the intermediate
level the focus is on developing languages skills
through exposure to a variety of business topics and situations.
More advanced classes will emphasize communications in typical
business functions, such as entrepreneurship, marketing, finance,
human resources, stock market, etc. The school arranges for
students to visit a Canadian business and if requested, we will
investigate opportunities for internships with Canadian companies.

One-on-one instruction
is available for students who wish extra
help, prefer an accelerated program of study, or have particular
study interests. The tutorial module is offered Monday through
Thursday between 4:00 and 6:00. Semi-private sessions may be
available, depending on student demand.
