Approved Professional Learning Program (PLP) course provider for the Ontario College of Teachers

Teaching English as A Second Language (TESL/TEFL)

Pre-requisites: There are no prerequisite for this course, apart from proficiency in English.

  • Course instructors are experienced TESL teachers and experts in the field
  • Presentations cover instructional theory and methodologies in a variety of ESL/EFL areas over different levels
  • Presentations provide information applicable to both Canadian and overseas teaching situations
  • Participants observe ESL classes
  • Participants receive a variety of handouts as well as information on additional materials
  • Participants may practice teach international students

Course Duration: The program consists of 100 hours of classroom study including a 20-hour practicum. The instruction hours for the full-time program are Monday to Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. for a 4-week period.

Course Cost: Tuition fees for the 4 week full time program is $950 Application fee is $100. Text Book fee is $50

Theoretical Issues and Methodologies: An overview of the major
second language teaching trends.

  • Principles of Communicative Language Approach: An in-depth
    practical study of the Communicative Language Teaching
  • ESL Methods and Factors that influence second language
    learners. (Children & Adults)
  • How to be a good teacher. Classes include hands-on,
    practical experience.

Lesson Planning: Basic components of a lesson

  • Lesson planning practice- How to plan lessons
  • Teaching the Holistic Approach
  • Teaching the Four Skills. How to teach (listening, speaking,
    reading, writing)
  • Curriculum Development
  • The Thematic Approach

Evaluation: Student Assessment

  • Theories of testing
  • Classroom Management

Certification: After successful completion of the program, the
graduate is awarded a TESL Certificate from our Academy.
Certification allows students to teach in private schools and in
programs that do not require a TESL Ontario accredited certificate.
